The Wiltshire Compact aims to improve the quality of life for people in Wiltshire.

It will do this by improving partnership working arrangements and developing the understanding between the statutory and voluntary sector.

The Compact is a set of principles within which the statutory and voluntary sector agree to work. The benefits to people living in Wiltshire will include:

  • better support for community groups

  • more opportunities for communities to take part in decision making

  • improved services

The Compact will support the development of healthy and vibrant communities in Wiltshire.

2008

A great deal has happened to the Wiltshire Compact during 2008. The Compact Board has been actively involved in the review carried out by Wiltshire County Concil (WCC) and Wiltshire NHS (formally wiltshire PCT) on the sunject of working with the Voluntary Sector.

The results of the review have seen a number of recommendations being endorsed by WCC Cabinet and Wiltshire NHS trustee board.

It has been recognised that the Wiltshire Compact is directly connected with six of these recommendations. A number of recommendations refer to a new Funding Framework. The work to achieve this by October 2009, is being overseen by the Compact Board. At the present time the Compact Board, including WCC and Wiltshire NHS are identifying resources to carryout this task.

A working group has been set up by the Compact Board to start the process of reviewing the Wiltshire Compact and its Codes of Practice. The group is made up of representatives from the statutory and voluntary sectors. The group will prepare a draft document which the Compact Board will be circulating for consultation with all sectors in early 2009.

The review will also include looking at membership of the Compact Board. Already the Board has been joined by the Len Turner the Chair of WFCAP(Wiltshire Forum of Community Area Partnerships). This move was taken in a move to make the Wiltshire Compact more relevant to partnership working in Wiltshire. The aim is to ensure that the Wiltshire Compact is fully integrated into the new family of partnerships across the county.

If anyone would like to contribute to this process we invite you to send your thoughts via our contact page on this website.
