The Wiltshire Compact aims to improve the quality of life for people in Wiltshire.

It will do this by improving partnership working arrangements and shared understanding between the statutory and voluntary sectors.

The Compact is a set of principles within which the statutory and voluntary sectors agree to work. The benefits to people living in Wiltshire will include:

  • better support for community groups

  • more opportunities for communities to take part in decision making

  • improved services

The Compact will support the development of healthy and vibrant communities in Wiltshire.

May 2010:

NEW INDEPENDENT CHAIR APPOINTED

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Baxter as the new independent Chair of the Wiltshire Compact Board with effect from the 1st June 2010.

Peter retired as Assistant Chief Fire Officer from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service in March 2009.

In that role Peter was very involved in the previous Wiltshire Strategic Partnership arrangements so will bring a lot of very useful experience as the Board gears up to embedding the Wiltshire Compact in the Wiltshire Family of Partnerships.

In making this announcement it would be remiss not to pay tribute to Rex Webb as the outgoing Chair and to thank him for his sterling work over the past two and a half years.

December 2009:

WILTSHIRE COMPACT PRINCIPLES
STILL STAND

The Wiltshire Compact and its Codes of Practice were originally published in 2005. Many organisations signed-up to the Compact at that time and agreed to work within the principles contained therein. Those Codes of Practice still apply today and organisations should still be working to the principles agreed. The Compact and Codes can all be viewed in the Compact website at:

www.thewiltshirecompact.org.uk

At the present time the Compact and its Codes are being reviewed by the Compact Board. Originally the Compact was designed to deal with the relationship between the statutory and voluntary sectors. However, it is becoming clear that the principles contained in the Codes are relevant to organisations from all sectors working in partnership. This being said, although the general principles are relevant there is still a need to update the Codes to make them fit for purpose and relevant to all sectors.

The Compact Board has set up a number of working groups to create an updated draft Compact and Codes. These will then be published for consultation within the period laid out within the Compact principles. A revised Compact will then be produced and made available to all organisations in Wiltshire who work in partnership together. It is hoped that the revised Compact and Codes will then become the basic principles to support partnership working within Wiltshire.

Until the revised Compact and Codes are published the original Compact and Codes still apply.
